need

Man, I need God.

It’s been a long, long, long time coming.

Jeremiah 29:12-14a

New King James Version (NKJV)

12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity;

Reverse Advent

2 12 2011

The idea of Tradition has continued to bounce around in my head.  I’ve been mulling and inquiring about the traditions of those around me.  One popular family tradition is the Advent Calendar.  The only time we ever had an Advent Calendar in my youth was the year we had an exchange student from Germany.  His parents mailed one over and we hung it up.  Each day we open the package, treat or small gift.  It was fun sharing the traditions of our student.

I was pursuing one of the blogs I frequent when I ran across this post: http://www.creaturecomfortsblog.com/home/2011/11/29/advent-calendar-roundup-19-great-ideas.html

It displayed such a variety of creative ideas for advent calendars.  I was struck with inspiration!  There was a vision of glittered animals dancing in my head!  This is it! One tradition we are going to add next year! But….

….I was struck with the idea of a Reverse Advent Calendar.   Instead of opening a small gift for ourselves, we’ll open an idea,  suggestion or gift that we can share with someone else!  I’ve listed a couple of ideas below.  Please add any ideas or suggestions you may have!  Giving, the best way to celebrate the holiday season!

* Donate all unused coats in a coat drive

* Make cookies or bread for a neighbor

* Buy the coffee of the person behind me

* Give a scarf to someone who doesn’t have one

* Make an ornament to give away

* Send a card to a friend or a stranger

* Volunteer!

* Drop of photo gift packages at the local police or firestation

* Fill a bag for Harvesters

* Make some else smile!

A box. A loss.

8 09 2011

A Summer of loss for so many people: grandparents, Aunts, a Dad, a mom and a brother. A loss that feels like a permanent gap. A blank. A space that would have been filled by THAT person. That SHOULD still be filled by that person. It’s an unfathomable hurt. A longing. A loneliness. A memory. A regret. A story.

The video below took me by surprise. It didn’t end the way I thought. It made me want a box! It made me want to play! It made me remember. I caught my breath at the end. A sudden moment…a sudden knowing…it’s not a blank space. It will always be filled. Always remembered. More often than not, remembered with a smile creeping over my face. =)

For who has despised the day of small things?

Loving the Jon Foreman lyrics

31 12 2008

Lyrics to Your Love Is Strong :
Heavenly Father, you always amaze me
Let your kingdom come in my world and in my life
You give me the food I need to live through the day
And forgive me as I forgive the people that wronged me
Lead me far from temptation
Deliver me from the evil one

I look out the window the birds are composing
Not a note is out of tune or out of place
I look at the meadow and stare at the flowers
Better dressed than any girl on her wedding day

So why do I worry?
Why do I freak out?
God knows what I need
You know what I need

Your love is
Your love is
Your love is strong
x3

The kingdom of the heavens, is now advancing
Invade my heart, invade this broken town
The kingdom of the heavens, is buried treasure
Will you sell yourself to buy the one you’ve found?

Two things you told me
That you are strong
And you love me
Yes you love me

Your love is
Your love is
Your love is strong
x3

Our God in heaven
Hallowed be
Thy name above all names
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven

Give us today our daily bread
Forgive us wicked sinners
Lead us far away from our vices
And deliver us from these prisons

Proverbs 24:27

Prepare your outside work,
Make it fit for yourself in the field;
And afterward build your house.

Psalm 127:1a
Unless the LORD builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
